Root Canal Therapy Step By Step

It’s one of the most dreaded and hated dental procedures for patients, although, if it is done properly it is no more painful than any other dental procedure. So, what is a root canal? Do I need one? How do I know I need one? What is done during a root canal? We thought we could provide some information and a helpful step by step into what it looks like to receive a root canal. So what is root canal treatment? Root canal treatment is required when the tooth is badly decayed and the infection moves to the nerve and root canals.  Root canal therapy (RCT) involves removal of the pulp, which is made up of nerves, tissue, and blood vessels. Next, an antimicrobial solution may be used to disinfect the tooth and kill any remaining bacteria.  Lastly, canals are dried filled with a material called gutta percha. A crown is often recommended after a root canal is completed to provide long term protection of the tooth.
